Iraq: The Hidden Story

This is a documentary by Britain’s Channel 4 telling the story of what does not get reported in Iraq by the mainstream media. Of course, most of us knew this to be the case anyway, but it is interesting to watch to get a better understanding of the way things are. Without a doubt, Iraq has become the deadliest region in the world to be assigned to. During previous conflicts in the region, reporters were not always targeted and the fear of being captured and executed was minimal. The Iraq invasion of 2003, ironically named “Operation Iraqi Freedom“, changed all of that. Welcome to the ‘Green Zone’, the new ‘frontier town’ of the F.S.A.

Were all of the images of war to be shown would there be any wars today? Probably. The world has become largely desensitised through the media and film. While there would be obvious outrage I think that much of it would be aimed at the media for revealing the bloody bodies of children or the ruined heads of people that are caught in blasts all while they are eating their cornflakes and toast. The fact is, such images will never be aired. Media corporations offer up enough to satisfy the ‘car-crash’ mentality within the general public; everyone takes a turn to stop and stare before carrying on with their lives.
