Former US secretary of state, Henry Kissinger has called for a direct negotiation between Washington and Tehran over Iran's nuclear issue.

In an interview with an Iranian news agency, Kissinger criticized the Bush administration stressing that the US policies, if not reconsidered, will fail in the future.

"I think Iran is willing to cooperate," he said, adding that Europe and the US should admit that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful.

Admiring the Iranian nation, he said that the US should never prevent the scientific progress of Tehran.

Kissinger referred to the recent round of Larijani-Solana talks and considered it an "important opportunity" for the US and Europeans to take a new diplomatic approach toward Tehran.
