Did Jews Drink Blood?

Editor's note: I am moving over to the other blog.

A history prof from Bar Ilan University says "blood libel" is the real deal in his new book.
This will get the Zionists hopping. :)

Giving Proof To Blood Libel?

Roots of Antisemitism Dug Up (AP)

According to a new book by history professor Ariel Toaff, medieval Jews not only sacrificed Christian children, they also used their blood as an ingredient in baking matzo (unleavened bread). In Bloody Passovers: The Jews of Europe and Ritual Murders, Toaff, son of Rabbi Elio Toaff, describes "the mutilation and crucification of a two-year-old boy to recreate Christ's execution at Pesach" near the northern Italian city of Trento. Not surprisingly his allegations have outraged quite a few people in Italy and across the world including 12 of Italy's chief Rabbis who stated in response "the only blood spilled in these stories was that of so many innocent Jews, massacred on account of unjust and infamous accusations."

Toaff, a professor at Bar Illan University, near Tel Aviv, bases his claims on confessions "extracted by torture" during a "medieval trial" in 1475. Suffice to say, this might not be the most reliable source, and even Toaff only goes so far as to say the accusations "might have been true." Still, for centuries, this so-called "Blood Libel" has been used as an excuse for the segregation and annihilation of Jews, which is why people are in such an uproar over the new book. What seems to have been forgotten in the shuffle though is that Toaff is describing a "deviant sect" of fanatics some 500 years ago -- a time when all types of brutal behavior (NAFW) took place. And even if there is some truth to his claims, to consider them indicative of an entire religion would be like believing the Branch Davidians are representative of all Christians. Admitting that these events may have taken place and examining the evidence empirically is not anti-Semitic; however, believing they provide justification for centuries of genocide is.

Here's some truth: the little boy with his hands up in the picture has a name: Tzvi Nussbaum. He survived the Shoah, fortunately. How can someone say that "blood libel" is truth - that ANYONE does such things is so unbelievable! Why would persecuted people do this?

Remember, the picture is not just a picture. There's a real, innocent, person in that photo. Jews no longer have to be scapegoats. Only people with little self-esteem and lots of hatred writes such things.

Just look at the TORAH for wild and crazy things that beggar belief ..... strange how everytime the Yids are caught out with no excuse, its all ok because they are persecuted .... maybe the looney things the jews say and do is the true reason THEY are persecuted to begin with ... as thgoughout history they have been at odds with most other people.

Yes delta vines, a picture is not just a picture.....so you say.

So explain this to me...

Why does your media never show the pictures of the dead and crippled children of Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Palestine? Could it be that the media would have to expose the murderers as well?

Why don't you make me understand......

How is it a people that suffered such misery [over 60 years ago] wreaks havoc and misery far worse on Arab people and their children yesterday and today? One would think that people would learn from their own past not to repeat - let alone make worse - conditions for other human beings.........right?

When it comes to "little self-esteem" and "lots of hatred" anyone with an ounce of intelligence would not have to look past the israeli TERRORIST military and the American Zionist media. The two go hand in hand.

How many more hundreds of thousands of Arab children have to be massacred and crippled for the "protection" of 'israel"? How many more multiple billions of dollars to 'israel' of American tax-payers - annually - to keep alive the hatred of the "Jewish" settlers and israeli militants?

If you can't answer honestly - let alone understand.....then who gives a damn about Tzvi who survived the shoah?

Amir, a beautiful 11-year-old Palestinian girl is one of thousands not to survive a vicious onslaught of israeli terror - yesterday and today. Amir was walking to school, hunted down by israeli soldiers [why? what were they doing around school children?] six bullets to her body, murdered in cold blood.

Why should we care about Tzvi over 60 years ago when no one cares about Amir TODAY? And never mind the reasons for her death........right? The taxpayers need not know. Right?

The slow-raging and rabid genocide of Palestinian children... Lebanonese children not included, the adults of both countries not included like
Amir's.....are legion.

In that case, Tzvi's picture has no worth of meaning of any kind. His people learned nothing. In his case a picture really IS just a picture. Kind of like paper you can toss in the garbage.

Like Amir's life.

Dear Rhiannon,

I don't quite understand your post. Surely there is nothing in Delta's post that says we shouldn't be appalled by human rights abuses in the Middle East (or anywhere in the world).

The Blood Libel of Middle Ages Europe was one of several urban myths that fueled and 'justified' the persecution (as ostracision, formal explusion or outright murder) of Jews. The Holocaust is obviously the grandest example of genocide directed at Jews and (with the arguable exception of the desctruction of the indigenous peoples of South America) aimed at any race.

Jews - like Christians, Muslims, Atheists and left-handed people - do not operate as one homogenous group. They are individuals who share (parts of) a cultural, racial and religious heritage and belief system.

While it is, in my opinion, completely legitimate to talk of 'terrorist' acts commited by the Israeli military, it would be a mistake to conflate the Israeli national government or military with 'Jews'. It would only be one notch more ridiculous to suggest that Christians were responsible for the Holocaust.

Also, what is an 'American Zionist media'? Zionism was the late 19th/ early 20th century movement to establish a secular modern state of Israel. I suppose American Zionism would be a way to describe US-born zealots living in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories but what has that to do with the US media. Do you honestly believe that the media is 'controlled' by anyone or even by a collective?

It would be fair to say that there is a great degree of self-censorship in the US media. This is the tendency in countries with an ostensibly free and independent media. It is right to note that much of the corporate media in the US underplays the suffering of the Palestinian, Afghan and Iraqi people. But why does that make it 'American Zionist'? The BBC, which is arguably more balanced in its reporting perhaps as a result of being predominantly free from either government control or shareholder influence, is fequently accused of being both pro-Israeli and pro-Palestinian by groups and individuals on the extremes of the argument.

Obviously, America is a major international ally of Israel. Much as the UK is to America. The corporate media often pitches its stories from the perspective of the nation itself or its perceived allies. The belief is that this is the story that people will want to hear. There is no law or conspiracy to promote the telling of the story of the Pearl Harbour bombings and to downplay the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima but no prizes for guessing which gets made into the summer movie.

Murders by state and non-state military groups are commonplace across most of the world. Mass murders, genocides and suppressions did not end with the Holocaust and are not restricted to the near and Middle East.

Amir's tragic fate does not does not devalue Tzvi's fortunate survival. Tzvi's life shouldn't mean we ignore Amir's death.
