PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Former Senator Lincoln Chafee criticizes President Bush's handling of the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
The ousted Republican senator spoke tonight at Brown University, where he landed a job at an institute for international studies after losing his seat to Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse in November.
Chafee suggested the president was bowing to a faction of evangelical Christians who oppose a Palestinian state. He said he has wondered why the United States has not been a leader in the
process even though Bush has said several times that he supports the peace process.
Chafee cited comments by evangelical Christians who have said they don't think Israel should give up any land to the Palestinians.
